Davis went on to add that the Living World's return would render its few instances in the Icebrood Saga's Scrying Pool superfluous, and that they would be phased out as the new chapters were launched, but that all relevant achievements would still be available to complete in the story journal. On 22 March, 2022, Game Director Josh Davis and Executive Producer Amy Liu announced in a news post that key moments from Scarlet's War would be rereleased in five episodes throughout the year starting on 19 April with "Flame and Frost". Unlike later Living World seasons, most of Scarlet's War was unavailable for years due to being released in temporary, bi-weekly installments. The Lost Shores can be considered a prelude to the season, introducing many of the characters that will play a major role in the season, and Festival of the Four Winds as an epilogue leading into Glint's Prophecy.

It began proper with Flame and Frost: Prelude on January 28, 2013, and continued until March 18, 2014, with Battle for Lion's Arch: Aftermath. Living World Season 1, also called Scarlet's War, is the first season of the Living World.
